Friendship, harmony and causality

History

This is a story of friendship, harmony and causality: two long journeys through wine meeting in the Southern Cone and deciding to become one shared project.

History

The beginning

Two trajectories moving through the same world of wine

Luca Hodgkinson and Sebastian San Martin spent more than two decades travelling through the world of wine, learning from people, cellars, landscapes and work traditions shaped over generations.

That long apprenticeship did not move in a straight line. It unfolded across vineyards, harvests and conversations, in academic spaces and practical ones, until a shared sensibility began to emerge almost before the project had a name.

Between Chile and Argentina

Crossing the Andes, again and again

Working between Chile and Argentina meant living in a constant coming and going through the Andes. That movement, repeated over years, became more than logistics. It became a way of reading the land.

Like the slow invisible hand that shapes mountain valleys and river soils, the crossings revealed a harmony between geology, climate, human labor and the meaning we try to give the landscape when we farm it with care.

Birth of the project

Buena Vida as terroir, curiosity and attention

Buena Vida grew spontaneously from that shared attention. It was born from terroir, from the curiosity of restless children disguised as winemakers, and from an enduring amazement before the mysteries of soil life and microclimate.

We remain fascinated by the subtle web of interactions between geology, living organisms, exposure, weather and human intervention. The wine that emerges from that encounter is never merely a product. It is a vital record of place, and to that search we have dedicated a good part of our lives.
